He later admits to Vegeta that he was able to transform into super saiyan 3 during that battle. The real question is whether or not Vegeta would have forced Goku that far... I don't know. Vegeta's psychologically confusing at the best of times, let alone under Babidi's control. I personally like to think that being Majin removed Vegeta of his inhibitions, rather than made him evil - he IS evil. Well, he's immoral. He can't make moral judgements, but he knows whats right and wrong in terms of the society he's found himself in. He's smart. He knows what he should and should not do, but he lacks that true moral understanding, so his own desires can overide it. Where Goku cares about all life indiscriminately, Vegeta ONLY cares for a select few and he only comes to realise that through Goku's reminders. He gets FURIOUS when Goku first suggests that he's lying about not caring for Bulma and Trunks. I think that once Vegeta knew he couldn't win, he'd have backed down much the same as he respectfully did to Goku during the fight with Kid Buu. He'd only do this with Goku, because Goku is no REAL threat, and he respects him despite feeling immense frustration towards him. He's so angry at Goku for letting him believe he could win that fight, so had it became apparent during the fight I think he'd seriously have had a mental breakdown, a cry and then given Goku a lecture.
